XOOM Energy Partners with Second Harvest in Assisting Carolina Families

June 30, 2014

Over 200,000 citizens in our area live and poverty and go without the basic nutrition, hygiene and household products needed to live an active, healthy life. XOOM Energy is committed to making a difference here in the Carolinas and is partnering once again with the Second Harvest Food Bank to host our 3rd Annual Food Drive.  For two weeks during the month of June (June 16th – June 27th) XOOM Energy collected food and grocery items for children, families and seniors currently in need.

In the spirit of friendly competition, the XOOM employees were divided into five teams, each one led by a member of the Executive Committee.  The teams including team “Shock and Awe”, “Captain Crunch and the Cereal Killers”, “No Margarine for Error” and “Feeding Frenzy” competed over the two-week period to see which could make the largest donation to Second Harvest.  In addition to staff donations, XOOM Energy team members also volunteered their time at the Second Harvest sorted and examining donated food items.

“As employees of XOOM, we are all grateful for the opportunity to earn a wage and provide for our families and loved ones. Eliminating hunger in our surrounding communities is a huge task and we could not be more pleased with the level of generosity shown as we work together to support such worthwhile cause”, stated Tom Ulry, CEO.  “This time of year finds the food bank low on supplies as demand increases from schools being on summer break. This presents XOOM with an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on those less fortunate in our community”.

Team “Shock and Awe” proved victorious, but on a larger scale, XOOM is proud to have made an overall donation of 4,812 pounds to the Second Harvest Food Bank.  Plans for the 2015 partnership are already underway; XOOM will continue supporting the largest hunger relief charity in the area in their mission to supply a network of over 600 non-profit agencies across 19 counties with food and essential grocery products.
